Ex-President Khatami Tapped Member of Alliance of Civilizations

UN Secretary General, Koffi Annan, has formed an 18-member Alliance of Civilizations with Iranian ex-persident Mohammad Khatami as one of its member. Former Iranian President is himself the architect of the theory of Dialogue among Civilizations which was welcomed by the United Nations and the year 2003 was designated as such. However, the chairmanship of this newly established alliance is shared by the former head of UNESCO and Advisor Secretary for Turkish Government since these two personalities have been the main architects and funding members of this alliance.

IranIndia Gas Pipeline Negotiations Finalized

Manoochehr Mottaki, Iran's Foreign Minister and his visiting Indian counterpart, Natwar Sing announced in Tehran that the negotiations on gas pipeline have been finalized and the two sides have agreed to embark on executing the plan. The 7-billion-dollar gas pipeline passes through Pakistan. He blamed the transition period for the new government in Iran as the reason behind the postponement of such a plan.

US$ 1.1 billion Indian Investment in Iranian Steel Industry

TaTaSteel India has promulgated that it would invest one billion and one hundred million US dollars in constructing 3 Steel factories and development of Iran's iron ore mines. This company intends to increase output to meet the increasing demand in India, China and other Asian countries.  This contract comes shortly after a US$ 22-million oil export deal to India was signed between the two countries. It said it plans to increase its steel production to 15 million tons by 2010.

Iran's Power Plant Capacity to Reach 41K Megawatts

Director General of Iran's Electricity Expansion Organization promulgated that in order to meet the consumers' demands, 13 new power units with the capacity of 2 thousand and 250 megawatts will become operational by this year's end which will bring the country's power plant capacity to 41 thousand megawatts. Of the newly operational power units, 11 are heat producing with the capacity of 1750 megawatts and two water units with the capacity of 500 megawatts combined. He put the present capacity of the country's power plants at 38 thousand and 760 megawatts adding that this capacity comes from 366 power units in 85 power plants nationwide.

Persian Gulf Beach Resort Groundbreaking Ceremony

 

In a groundbreaking ceremony, the Persian Gulf Beach Resort project was kicked off  by the head of Board of Directors and Director General of Kish Island Free Zone Organization and local officials. This 1375-building-unit project is located on the southeastern part of Kish Island with estimated cost of one thousand billion Rials. The 280-thousand-square meter area includes residential units, villas enjoying recreational, leisure, sports, training and medicare facilities. 61 thousand square meters of green space along with 97455 square meters of open space with a beach park, sea restaurant, VIP jetty, yacht resorts, and pools are of this project's other features.

 

AFP: Increased Iran-Armenia Cooperation in Energy Sector

 

Armenian Undersecretary of Energy said that Iran and Armenia will develop bilateral cooperation in energy sector by constructing a hydraulic power plant and a new line of energy supply at their common borders, AFP reported. This 140-megawatt power plant will include two sections, each located across the border connected by an 18-km tunnel. He also pointed out that Iran and Armenia intend to establish third electricity transfer line between the two sides which will double the capacity (electricity transfer) reaching 400 megawatts per hour. Armenia is currently the importer of Iranian electricity in summers and exporter to Iran in winters. The power plant in Armenia provides 40 percent of that country's electricity need.

Malaysian Firm Invests US$ 1 Billion in Qeshm Island

Vice president of Qeshm Free Zone Organization said Malaysian BOROCOS is to invest around one billion US dollars in this island. Based on the agreement between QFZO and BOROCOS, the latter increased its investment from 500 million dollars to one billion after the perusal of the plan. It is to construct 5 chain medical equipment manufacturing factories in the island. These factories will be environmentally friendly and in line with environmental standards.  

Economist: Tehran, World's Most Inexpensive

Tehran remains by far the cheapest city in the world with a cost of living index less than a third of that of London. The Iranian capital is less expensive than 130 other cities surveyed with a rating of 30 compared with a base rate of 100 for New York."

 

 

Bread, Cookies and Chocolate Show in Tehran

 

 

The forth international exhibition on bread, confections and chocolate opened in Tehran. 240 domestic and foreign companies from 24 countries, namely UK, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, Turkey, South Asian states and Middle East participate in this 4-day event presenting their latest products in machinery, raw material and final products. Most of the overseas companies showcased their machinery and raw material.
