Khatami Inaugurates Fiber Optic Network

President Mohammad Khatami said that the national fiber optic network is the pivotal point of a "digitized silk Road”. Speaking at ceremonies inauguration of the national fiber optic network, the president said that on one hand the network links Central Asia, China and Afghanistan, and Indian subcontinent as well as Iran's southern nations via Turkey to the West and on the other, Iran will be linked to the world through the seabed-laid network. The network could be immensely beneficial for political, security and economic interests of Iran he added according.

 

IranZimbabwe

Iran and Zimbabwe signed a US$ 200 million contract to develop a hydroelectric power plant in the African state. The accord was signed by the managers of the Zimbabwean company of ZESA and Iranian Farab Company which are both affiliated to the energy ministries of Zimbabwe and Iran respectively. Based on the four-year agreement, the Iranian part will build two units of the Kariba power plant in Zimbabwe with a total generating capacity of 300 megawatts. Iran's Ministry of Energy has successfully undertaken a number of water and power projects in different foreign countries during the past years.

 

US$ 6 billion Industrial Investment: Labor Minister


Iran Minister of Labor and Social Affairs said more than US$ 6 billion funding has been allocated to Industrial investment over the course of past 8 years to support the private sector. US$ 4.5 billion have so far been spent and the rest is underway. He further added by the end of current year, foreign exchange revenues will hit US$ 30 billion. He noted by the end of the Third Development Plan, 500 thousand job opportunities will be created on a yearly basis. Given Iran's economic growth of 6.6 percent, he put the unemployment rate at 10.4%.  

 

 

Iran Khodro to become World's 15th Automaker

 

Iran Khodro, of major car manufacturers in Iran, plans to earn the world's 15th spot by producing 640 thousand cars in the year 2005. This company was placed 19th in 2004 with production capacity of 500 thousand. Currently Iran Khodro is the biggest car manufacturer in the Middle East supported by 600 producers of car parts. Passenger cars comprise more than 90 percent of Iran's domestic market and the rest heavy vehicles.

 

200 bpd Hike in Iran Oil Production

 

Iran crude oil production will witness a 200 thousand bpd once Sorous and Norooz oil fields have become operational. Oil giant, Shell, is fully prepared to deliver this project to possible contractors and also will be present at inaugural ceremony.

 

IranGermany Trade Ties

 

Iranian-German trade ties are booming, reports a German daily, Handelzblut. It further adds the nuclear confrontation between Iran and Europe not only has not dented such trade exchanges, but also the increase in mutual trade has turned Iran into an important trade partner for Germany in the Middle East. German exports to Iran in 2004 saw an increase of 33.4 percent compared to the previous year reaching 3 billion and 600 million euros. 

 

 

1.5 Million Residential Units Needed Annually by 2021: Housing Minister

 

 

Iran Minister of Housing stressed the importance of  reconstruction and renovation of the present residential units concurrent with construction of new housing units. He also mentioned that the country needs to renovate 500 thousand residential units on a yearly basis within 20 years time. He further called for the manipulation of countries' experience in making use of the citizens' investments to construct buildings and develop the towns. He urged the mass-builders to follow models practiced by industrial nations.

 

 

Iran Copper Reserves Second in Asia

 

Iran with 25.4 percent enjoys the second position in Asia in terms of copper resources. Iran copper resources is around one billion and 900 million tons comprising 3.5 percent of the world's placing it seventh in the world. Indonesia is followed by Iran in terms of copper resources in Asia. Experts believe 14 million out of the above mentioned figure is pure copper.

 

 

IranIndia Energy Ties

 

Iran and India strengthened the ties in energy sector by signing a US$-22-billion LNG export contract in Tehran.

 

Power Plants Capacity reaches 39700 Megawatts

 

By come September, the registered capacity of Iran's power plants will reach 39700 magawatts.
